Can I just say, it was PERFECT ballooning weather today! Cool but with minimal/non-existent breeze. And the sun broke from the clouds covering the mountains and lit up the fog that was lifting off the just waking city. Beautiful. I wish I had had more than my camera phone to take pictures! You'll have to excuse the upside down pictures and the sideways picture. They refuse to upload correctly -.-
I am massively apologizing for getting behind this week. Toddlers gonna toddle! Between a boy who is learning how to manipulate his mom and family and bursting into tears when things don't go how he wants them to (and sometimes when they do) and just life in general, this week jumped ahead of me. So let's catch up!
Tuesday's Charity of Choice
Walkin' In Circles Ranch, Inc. - WNCR Home
Walkin' In Circles Ranch is an equine rescue organization based in Edgewood, New Mexico, just on the east side of the mountains from Albuquerque, New Mexico. The ranch currently houses over 80 horses. The facility doesn't just give the horses a place to live while they find new homes for them, they also rehabilitate and retrain the horses in order to better the horses' chances of finding a suitable and loving home.
Equine neglect has been on the rise as the economy has gone downhill. Frequently, people purchase or take in a "free" horse without the necessary experience needed to take care of them properly which leads to a whole lot of problems from creating a horse with poor self-esteem and trust issues to a horse who is severely underweight with minimal to no health care (yes, it does cost money to maintain a large animal!). But the neglect can easily come from people with tons of experience and sometimes that neglect isn't intentional. Sometimes, hard times just hit us and we can't keep it together long enough to provide correct and proper care for our animals.
That's when rescues step in. They get their horses from surrenders, auctions, and other places and give the horses a second chance at life. A real life with owners who can afford (and have time) to give them the right care.
WNCR frequents public events where they can set up booths to spread awareness and help with their donations but they also take donations at their website.
If you're interested in volunteering at a rescue ranch or donating to one near you, please Google who is in your area! Like all animal rescues, equine rescues are always in need of donations of supplies as well as money.
